A successful exploration of making traditional culture popular

Gardenia blooming "is a multimedia music scene with folk music as its main theme, and it is an innovative work that has never been encountered in many means of music expression. A variety of music styles, a variety of soundtrack, matched with bold and trendy, but natural, different music styles, that is, tightly embracing the essence of folk music, but also under the leadership of folk music, narrated a section of sad and passionate movements. Gardenia in bloom makes a cross-border dialogue with the paintings of young Shanghai painter Zhou Qian with music. The multimedia team designed and produced the multimedia images of Zhou Qian's paintings, and set off the mood and artistic conception of the music with flowing ink halos and vertical and horizontal images. Carve the scene into an extrasensory audio-visual space.

Eleven young folk music performers sat on the stage, all dressed in white, such as gardenia flowers. In the blend of sound and painting, a story about youth and love is told. Last night, the Shanghai National Orchestra's multimedia music scene "Gardenia blossomed" was staged as the 19th Shanghai International Artist Campus trip at Shanghai Lixin Institute of Accounting and Finance. Shanghai National Orchestra strives to explore the new language and aesthetic ideas of national chamber music. Gardenia blossoms is divided into four chapters: encounter, love, parting and blooming, with Liuqin, flute, erhu and pipa as the main instruments, connecting a complete story.

The first chapter: "encounter", just like meeting gardenia in early summer, all fate is also an inadvertent surprise, the so-called love is as simple and beautiful as gardenia.

In the fingertips of Zhong Ruan and Liuqin players, there is not only the elegance of traditional instruments, but also the free and easy style of guitar, expressing the romance and enthusiasm of youth.

The second chapter, "Love": in midsummer, a period of love also changes from the surprise of encounter to maturity, the whole song is mainly through Dong Xiao and bamboo flute, supplemented by Zheng and erhu, showing the tenderness and pleasure of love, and the emotion from shallow to deep. All kinds of musical instruments reflect each other, and the overall melody is also light and dynamic.

Flute and Xiao performers fully express the shyness and enthusiasm of love in the sound of the flute.

The third chapter, "Farewell": through passionate love, bid farewell to the high spirits of youth, but also encountered a time at a loss, maybe not love, maybe not timid, but there is no melancholy and sadness that can not be erased

The erhu performer gives full play to the narrative nature of the unique timbre of the erhu, echoes with the zither, showing the helpless melancholy of being young and frivolous and moving towards maturity and secularity.

The fourth chapter, "Flowers": this chapter is the summary chapter, under the dialogue between the pipa and all the musical instruments, it shows that although everyone has experienced ups and downs and various forms of life, he still has the spirit to forge ahead and the courage to set up a school of his own.

The students who watched the performance held their breath, the theater was full and silent, and everyone who loved folk music maintained basic respect for the performers. In addition to enjoying the music feast, they also felt the musicians' awe and enjoyment of beauty. After the performance, all the actors came out and bowed several times to thank the audience, but the students refused to leave. It's like I'm looking forward to something. Like it's nothing? I'm afraid that's the charm of music.

Once upon a time, there was a view that folk music had begun to decline. Who says young people don't like folk music? The Shanghai National Orchestra focused on its creation in 2017, and the multimedia music scene "Gardenia blooming", which focuses on the concept of youth, performed twice in a row in the concert hall of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.

The University of Social Science and Technology of China, known as the youngest university in China, welcomed its first batch of 392 undergraduates in September. The gardenia bloomed on the second day of school. The gardenia blooming brought by the Shanghai Folk Orchestra has become the first lesson in freshmen's entrance education, bringing them into close contact with traditional culture. The performance also attracted many graduate students and teachers. 1000 seats were soon filled, and even many students sat on the steps of the corridor. Gardenia opened this full of youthful name and colorful without losing the traditional meaning of the poster, as soon as it was exposed, it brightened everyone's eyes. Later, I learned that the composer and performer were very young, and the live lighting dance was full of imagination, so the performance became difficult to get. The head of the student union of HKUST said: it's not that young people don't like folk music, they just need a reason for us to get close to it. As long as they are born and raised in China, they always resonate with the traditional culture.

Luo Xiaoci, director of the Shanghai Folk Orchestra, said: nothing good can come out of being stable forever. We need a little impulse, a little adventurous spirit, and a little attitude of putting death behind life. Even if it fails, it is a meaningful exploration. Tang Yiwen, Jin Jing, Lu Lu, Tang Yunli and other young performers stepped onto the stage, and national musical instruments collided with percussion instruments, cello and bass bass to produce new sounds of folk music, with both a strong national style and a strong sense of modernity.

Folk music is fashionable, young and fun. This is the voice of many viewers after enjoying "Gardenia blossoms". The average age of the creative team of the show is only about 30. This group of post-80s and 90s have become well-deserved promoters of the new forces of folk music and national culture.

Whether it is "Gardenia blooming" or the last international art festival "people's Music on the Sea", they all strive to show the contemporary nature of folk music. In addition to being in line with the current aesthetic in music creation, but also reflecting the contemporary style in expression, we should have the courage to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese folk music, promote the contemporary expression of folk music, and make traditional culture popular. Become a way of life for young people.
